HELPFUL INFORMATION:
Pet Care Tip for Monday, February 6: Talking to your cat can help show affection, control behavioral issues, and improve your relationship with your pet. Even though you don't speak the same language, your cat can understand much of your tone of voice and body language. From single-word commands to animated speech,an upbeat intonation can help socialize, soothe, or sweet-talk your cat into becoming a better pet.
Pet Care Tip for Tuesday, February 7: A pet trust is a specific legal arrangement that provides for the care of companion animals in the event of the owner’s death or incapacitation. The Doris Day Animal League website offers basic information about pet trusts, and tips on what to consider when setting up a trust. Also, there are organizations that provide lifetime care for pets.
Pet Care Tip for Wednesday, February 8: Robirda is a publication that offers an extensive collection of information about canaries, including basic care, health issues, breeding, and behavioral topics. Look for it online at www.robirda.com
Pet Care Tip for Thursday, February 9: Be very careful searching for a pet online, and steer clear if the poster is offering puppies for sale, not adoption. Animal welfare advocates say the internet has become the latest vehicle for “puppy mills” to sell their wares. And people who sell dogs over the internet are able to skirt federal licensing and inspections because they are not considered wholesalers. In addition, since most states don’t have puppy “lemon laws”, you have no recourse if your new pet has major health issues.
Pet Care Tip for Friday, February 10: Quality time with your furry companion is good for both you and your pet. Research shows that petting an animal evens out human brain waves associated with depression and increases human brain waves associated with anxiety relief and positive feelings. After a mere 5 minutes of affection, your pet will experience lower blood pressure and positive neurochemical changes as well.
